Leigh Howard (18/10/1989) began cycling at the age of 9 in 1997 in a track cycling competition at his local Geelong Cycling Club.

In 2008 he won his first elite World Championship silver medal in the omnium silver before claiming the omnium world title one year later in 2009.

In 2010, he won the first of two Madison world crowns with Cameron Meyer with the pair successfully defending their title in 2011.

In 2018, with Alex Porter, Sam Welsford and Kelland O’Brien, he teamed to become the first team in history to break the three-minute (3:49.804) fifty-second barrier on their way to winning gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Howard was also part of the quartet with Alex Porter, Sam Welsford and Kelland O’Brien which smashed their world record at the 2019 Track Worlds Championships in Poland with 3min 48.012secs.

At the 2020 Track Worlds Championships in Germany, Porter, Welsford, Howard, Scott and Plapp (3:50.015) fell just two-hundredths of a second off the podium when they finished fourth.

On the road, Leigh has spent time with professional Teams such as Team HTC- Columbia, GreenEDGE, IAM Cycling and Aqua Blue Sport and has contested all three Grand Tours.
