AMY CURE | Mersey Valley Devonport CC (TAS)Amy Cure (born 31/12/1992) hails from Penguin in Tasmania and is a member of the Mersey Valley Devonport Cycling Club.
Cure’s interest in cycling was sparked at the age of twelve after a visit to watch the Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals with her family. After quickly joining her local club, Mersey Valley Devonport, Cure began to impress on the national stage as a teenager. Amy made her national team debut at the 2009 Junior (Under 19) World Championships and she would dominate the Championships in both 2009 and 2010 with four junior world titles across - two in the individual pursuit where she set a new world record, plus one in the team pursuit and scratch race. As a nineteen-year-old, Amy was a reserve on the Australian Olympic Team for the 2012 Games in London. Amy claimed two World Championship medals in 2013 before breaking through for her maiden elite world title in 2014 when she won the points race in Colombia. One year later, Amy claimed a second rainbow jersey after victory in the team pursuit in world record time (with Melissa Hoskins, Ashlee Ankudinoff and Annette Edmondson) in France in 2015. Amy made her Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, however an unfortunate training crash in Rio on the eve of the Games cruelled Amy's and Australia's chances of a podium finish. In 2017, Amy made history by becoming the first person in track cycling history to win a medal in six different world championship events - the individual and team pursuits, points and scratch races, the Madison and the omnium. At the 2019 UCI Track World Championships in Poland, Cure claimed a third world title when she teamed with Ashlee Ankudinoff, Alex Manly, Annette Edmondson and Georgia Baker to win the team pursuit. Amy also teamed with fellow Tasmania Baker to win Madison silver. At the 2020 UCI Track World Championships in Germany, Cure teamed with Ashlee Ankudinoff, Annette Edmondson, Maeve Plouffe and Georgia Baker to finish fifth in the team pursuit. Amy has contested two Commonwealth Games, firstly in 2014 where she won silver and bronze medals, and again at the 2018 Games on the Gold Coast where she won team pursuit and scratch race gold.
